Lala Lajpat Rai, the great freedom fighter established The Servants of People Society in 1921 at Lahore (Pakistan), which, after the partition of the country, shifted its base to New Delhi. NGO Delhi, non governmental organizations We are privileged to have, as Presidents, such eminent personalities like – Shri Purushottam Das Tandon, Shri Balwant Rai Mehta, Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri, Trustee, Dr. Radha Nath Rath, Shri Krishan Kant, Lala Achint Ram. Society’s trustees are also well-known names like – late Shri I.K.Gujral ( ex-Prime Minister of India), Justice (Retd) Rajinder Sachhar and Justice (Rtd) Dr. Arijit Pasayat.

This Society is a non-government and non-profit organization engaged in the educational, cultural, social, economic and political advancement of our people. It functions through 18 Branches/Centers across the country.

Its various activities are given below:

a) Education We are running around 12 schools across the country where education is Imparted to children, from all sections of society, including children with disabilities. Poor, deserving students are given scholarships, funded by various N.G.Os and individuals.

b) Libraries We have well-stocked libraries in six centers in India. Our New Delhi Branch has around 63,000 books and is patronized by students, academicians and senior citizens from neighboring areas.

c) Health Our 6 branches, across country, provide Allopathic, Homoeopathic, and

Naturopathy treatments, at large, to the underprivileged. These centers are financed mainly from donations by individuals/corporate othphilanthropicorganizations.
d) Rural Projects Four of our branches have opened their centers in rural areas for
Imparting vocational education to girls. Vocational courses include computer education (software and Hardware) and Tailoring classes. Many such areas have opened where we such centers, the Government has developed roads, post offices etc over there.

e) Social Activities
1) Home for Poor and underprivileged/needy
Kumar Ashram with a capacity of 80 inmates at Meerut provides boarding and lodging facilities at a minimum cost to Harijans and poor students

of other castes who want to pursue higher studies.

2 Mahila Hostels Society has two working women’s hostels at Ahmedabad and Kanpur and boarding/lodging is provided at nominal cost.

3) Mahila Kalyan Kendras Deserving women are trained and assisted by these Kendras through Masala Centers. Poor women are provided

  the raw material for grinding of masala, which is then sold by Kendras, one at Delhi and other at Allahabad. Tailoring centers: The Kendras gives training to needy women post training many women are self- employed.

4) Balwadi’sOur women’s wing at Delhi manages 18 Balwadi’s with approx. 1000 children from slum areas, from age of 3 to 5 years who are taught by the play way method and given a protein enriched meals.

5) Elder’s Home We have 2 Elder Homes in Mumbai and Delhi. The senior citizen home provides accommodation at very nominal charges to the elderly.

Daily Newspapers and Monthly Bulletin

I) The Samaj A popular Oriya daily newspaper, Samaj, started in 1927 from Cuttak and is still doing well.

II) Better Life One monthly bulletin is published by the Delhi Branch and the Ahmadabad center and circulated amongst its life Members and donors.

Youth Wing Activities: Youth Camp/ Sankar Kendra

Every year youth camps are organized to build up a cadre of national workers and patriots. Sports, debates, seminars, and discussions on various subjects are held among the youth participants in these camps. Our two branches at Allahabad and Kanpur are very active in these programmed.
